Just a bit of math... Taking the 4 TownHouses, 5 Mines, and 6 Farms from level 8 to level 9 will cost you 33 days. That's how long you have to wait until you are turning a profit for having built it up... so if you plan to play less than 1 month, don't take them past 8, otherwise, taking them to 9 is a good idea. Math: Cost in Gold to raise all 3 groups to 9 = 3328*4 + 4538*5 + 4538*6 = 63,230. Increase in Gold per Hour with 4 Townhouses = 4*20 = 80 63,230/80/24 =(Hours in a day) = 33 Days. Steel is 63230/100/24 = 26 Days. Food is 58992/540/24 = 4.5 Days Will calculate level 10 when I finish building some Level 9's in everything.

Calculating going from 9 to 10 for TownHouses and Mines (at this point food is moot), you start making a profit at 61days and 14 hours for Gold, and 49 days for Iron.
10 is likely the upper limit of where the delay in profit time make up for loss of resources to build. Past this point, the time gets closer to a year than a month, and even years, unless level 12 generates more than the +20 for Gold/Iron.

It doesn't. Level 13 only gives +10 for gold/iron. Level 12 gives +20

Well then How do we get the Food at a level where one can support more units, this I guess also applies to Resource spent leveling up the Springs.
Seems like a bit of a Conundrum?

This is a good topic and one I have been considering myself, I play regularly and will continue to and I assume that one day all my resources will be maxed out, However I do question if it is worth it currently I get 30 gold increase per upgrade (20 + 5 from alter (25%) + 5 from dungeon (25%) ) and it just cost me 16,791 gold to upgrade one townhouse from 13 to 14 going by that logic it would take me 559 day to see a profit from that level alone.
Would I be better not doing this (lets be honest 2 years shelf life for a facebook game is rather hopeful) and concentrating on raiding, units etc etc or would I be better doing the raids, building units but also plunging these costs in to see a profit in the future
Note: I assume the costs and time to upgrade will go up so I can only imagine what the profit time scale would be like from 19-20 would be crazy.

I have over 207 def(still building) 160k off(still building) and produce 2107 gold 1975 iron and 3922 food every hour. 5 lvl 14 townhouses 1 lvl 16 mine and 3 lvl 15's and 5 lvl 15 farms and 1 14 that will be 15 in a day. The only thing I plan on increasing is my food production to max and maybe one more mine to knock me over 2k. With my raid schedule I can max food almost 3 times a week and gold and iron at least once so I hardly ever run out. This also takes into account that I have the dungeon, spring of life and forge maxed and a maxed Alter of Weor. Any tips on how I can better at this will be greatly appreciated.

You seem to have it working properly. The cheapest way to increase is more raids, and more profitable raids lol. Upgrades do really get expensive from where you are at.
